FILM UPDATE: Spring Break

Ok guys so before i start ranting and compliaining, I'll just post my update for the middle of the week.

Le sigh. It's comming along, true, but I'm starting to get really annoyed. Everyone goes through this when they do their own film. Im starting to get to the point where I can really clearly see that my style has changed since I've been working on this. This has happened to me every year and it's no shocker that this year is any different. Aye.... I have so much to do. I think I counted about...20 scenes that I have to get finished before the film is due. My mentor told me something that I seriously need to take to heart. He told me that I need to have at LEAST movement in every scene. My original goal for this film was full color and full animation. Now I think that I'm just going to go for animation. But I'm sorta struggling with that because my years at cal arts have definitely proven to me that I do not want to be an animator. Le sigh. i dont know what I want. I'm starting to get a little stressed out. Generally when that happens I...put things off. I'll be honest, I haven't been working nearly as hard this spring break as I should have. I've started a job and that's sorta gotten in the way. On TOP of that, I need to some how produce a portfolio by the 5th and to be honest, i haven't done anything on that either. I've relaized that i've spent MOST of my time at cal arts animating and animating isn't really what turns me on about...animation.

I guess that's the struggle I"m going through now, trying to figure out WHERE i fit in. Aye. I'm a junior and I still don't totally know what I want to do. I'm starting to get intimidated. Looking at my work, i haven't had a lot of NEW things since my sophomore year. It's starting to stress me out. I haven't taken advantage of this school. Not one bit. Hopefully I"ll feel different by the end of this year.

So tonight, and maybe tommorow, I"m going to take a break from the film and just draw what makes me happy and put that into my portfolio. I hope it goes well and look forward to some drawings really soon. :)

FILM UPDATE: CRUNCH TIME!!!

OH

MY

BEAUTIFUL

JESUS.....

So, today it really hit me. IT'S CRUNCH TIME. D: I'm gonna be honest, i'm a little stressed. hahahaa. Basically, i looked up and we've got about....5 weeks until our films are due! lol. Soooo needless to say it's time to GET TO WORK and keep my head down and work hard on what I'm doing. I've been pretty sucessful i guess. Im getitng close to having a lot of my scenes at least worked on a little bit. My mentor told me that having a totally finished product isn't necessarily what I should be going for or what people truly care about when it comes to the producers show. They just want animation in every scene. No storyboards. So I'm trying really hard to at least do that. BUT i'm crazy and i wont settle for less than my goal. Thank God I have a friend who's helping me color. I still haven't taken my scenes to full color/texture since my test scene.

I'm trying to make some executive decisions right now. Like, what do I need to have totally animated and what can i get away with just being a dynamic hold. There's a lot of problems i need to solve. Firstly, the treatment of water in my film. Secondly, shadows and depth. I still need to talk to my film workshop teacher. She's been very helpful in helping me figure out what i need to do to get this where i want it to be.

I have a lot of faith in my film. I know that i have goals and I know they are attainable. I just need to totally buckle down and get used to working late into the night. I was on a pretty good sleep schedule until this week! Now it's gonna be no sleep, just work. I'M READY. Let's take this head on!

I haven't heard from my composer since my last blog entry, but I have a lot of faith in him. He's really good and I know he's going to give me something amazing. I'm still toying with the idea of having a sound designer. We'll see.

Anyways, I've decided that i'm going to make a habbit of updating my animatic with animated scenes. Mostly to see how they all flow into each other and also to just see my overall progress. This is a vital step that I sorta neglected last year. My work flow is finally becomming pretty consistent and easy to work with. At least I got that out of my second year film! hahah. Well here's what i have so far up to this date! Tell me what you think. :)

Also, i did some drawing of my male character and discovered a way of drawing I really enjoy. I love drawing on cintiques. I'm going to make sure that when lab sign ups happen, all i need to do is composite and color so I dont need a cintique. There's only....9 on campus and i know they're popular!'

FILM UPDATE: Some Unfinished animation

Hey guys, so I thought that I would update you on the progress of my film!! I've been working...semi hard on my film. I had a bit of a rough moment a week or so ago and didn't work on it for a week, needless to say I have a LOT of catching up to do. That aside, it still seems as though I'm getting a lot done. I've asked my dear friend, Chente, to color some of my scenes directly after I finish them. I am very very very thankful for him and his help. I'm sorta terrified at the prospect of coloring this film, but i desperately want to get it done and with the help of Chente, I think I will!

I've also gotten some of my music from my composer. I'm working with a great composer named Ryan Studer. He did some really impressive music for a film last year (who's name phases me) and I'm really looking forward to hearing what he has for me! Recently, he sent me a rough of his work. I was going to ask him if it was ok to publish it (as I'm a sucker for looking back at progress), but I'm impatient and I want to post this now! I have so much work to get done and I feel like I'm working hard yet still...getting not as far as I should be getting. But I'm of the belif that if I keep my head down and get to working I'll get it done! No partying for me this semester. Just work work work. I'm really excited to see this film finished, :D

So anyways, here's some -unfinished- animation. I thought I'd put this together to see how some of the scenes are flowing together as of now. I really like what I'm getting here. :) I have a bunch more scenes that are animated, btu it just so happened that these were the only ones that were consecutive. So that being said, Here's the update! I plan on updating you guys as MUCH as possible (and by you guys, i guess i mean the 5 people that subscribe to me! hahaha.

Enjoy. :D
